Summary:
The Education Commissioner appointed the Executive Committee on the 150th Anniversary of the American Revolution to develop a plan for statewide observances of events that occurred during 1776 and 1777 in New York. This series consists of correspondence, clippings, programs and pamphlets relating to official state and local celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the American Revolution. Correspondence relates to planning, execution and participation of the committee in local observances, and placement of historical markers.

Administrative History

In 1925 the Commissioner of Education appointed the Executive Committee on the 150th Anniversary of the American Revolution to develop a plan for statewide observances of events that occurred during 1776 and 1777 in New York. Peter Nelson, Supervisor of Public Records in the Division of Archives and History, was selected as Executive Secretary of the committee and charged with planning the State's role in observances designated by the committee.

Scope and Content Note

Correspondence and a few clippings and copies of pageant programs and pamphlets relating to official state and local celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the American Revolution.

The correspondence in this series relates to: planning and execution of State sponsored observances; advice and participation of the committee in local observances; distribution of pagent programs; and placement of historical markers and advice regarding markers' texts.
