Scope and Content Note

This series consists of two versions of a manuscript on the archeology of prehistoric rock shelter and camp sites, plus correspondence concerning the acquisition of the manuscripts. The manuscripts were authored by Max Schrabisch and are the result of his investigations of rock shelters in southeastern New York during the early twentieth century.

The 1936 manuscript includes numbered illustrations ("figures") consisting of photographs of rock shelters, maps showing site locations, and diagrams or "ground plans" of rock shelters.

Correspondence in this accretion is among the State Museum Director and Max Schrabisch, State Archeologist Noah Clarke, and Director of the Rochester Municipal Museum Arthur Parker. This correspondence concerns the progress of Schrabisch's work, and the contents and sale of his manuscripts to the State Museum.
