Summary:
This series consists of abstracts describing the military service of New Yorkers who served in the United States Navy as officers
or enlisted men (bulk of entries) during the Civil War. The abstracts contain: name, birthplace, from where appointed, date
of appointment, rank, promotions, names of vessels on which served, and final disposition (resigned, retired, died, or dismissed).
Some abstracts include: physical descriptions (eye and hair color, complexion, and height), as well as age, place of birth
and occupation.
