Scope and Content Note

This series documents money received in the comptroller's sales of land for unpaid taxes. There is one book for each tax sale (held every few years for lands upon which taxes were overdue and unpaid for two years).

Each book contains names of successful bidders. In columns next to the names are entered the amounts bid for each parcel, by county. At the bottom of the column is totalled the amount bid, and next to it are entered the amount paid and date of payment. Starting with the 1859 tax sale the entries also state the date when the purchaser received the certificate of payment.
