Scope and Content Note

This series consists of incoming correspondence related to the business and operations of the New York State Attorney General's Office. Topics of the correspondence include payments of accounts, debts, and court clerk's fees; inquiries about the status of lawsuits, court cases, and writs; the sale of land and mortgages; and other related functions of the Attorney General's Office. Also included are records relating to land grants in the New Military Tract and sales of land from forfeited estates. Much of the correspondence concerns routine business of the office with occasional records related to notable cases and events in which the office was involved. Correspondents include attorneys; judges; parties involved in court cases; business owners; and government officials.
