This series contains files kept by the secretary of the Planning Committee for the Shrine for the Emancipation Proclamation, established by law in 1962 (Chapter 550). The following kinds of records are included: newspaper clippings; correspondence of the committee; news releases; minutes of planning committee meetings; photographs of committee meetings and public ceremonies involving the Emancipation Proclamation; final report of the planning committee; New York State and local publications relating to the centennial of the Civil War; plans, elevations, and artist's renderings of the proposed Shrine; original Governor's proclamation of Lincoln Memorial Week, February 11-17, 1963; and two original copies of Governor's certificate that pen attached was used to sign the bill establishing the Planning Committee.
