Scope and Content Note

This series consists of the "Empire County" radio drama series produced to emphasize preventive health care and the benefits of a full-time county public health program. Child and infant care, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and immunization are the most frequent topics. Others include alcoholism, blood banks, diphtheria, fluoridation, medical defense (against atomic radiation), narcotics, obesity, polio, rheumatic fever, tuberculosis, undulant fever, and water pollution. The series "Community Controversy," on a twelve-inch vinyl disk, presents the public hearing as a lesson about community decision-making in a democracy. There are also several twelve-inch disks on public health topics from sources outside of New York State.
