Scope and Content Note
This series documents professional activities in which staff of the Department of Civil Service were engaged. Records include: "A Message to State Workers" - A Brief Chronological History of Civil Service Employees Association, Inc. (1910-1955); programs and summaries of proceedings from the Eastern States Regional Conference of the Civil Service Assembly of the United States and Canada, spanning multiple years; proceedings from the Annual Meeting of the Civil Service Assembly of the United States and Canada; special bulletins and progress reports. A publication of the Civil Service Newsletter titled "For the Improvements of Standards and Practices in Public Personnel Administration" and an incomplete version of the Assembly Line newsletter are included as well. Other documents found in this series are the oral examination given by the Civil Service Commission of New York City in 1939; various journal articles pertaining to civil service and public administration; and the "CSA Albany Guide" from the 1951 Eastern Regional Conference, which has an elaborately hand illustrated map of New York State and Albany in relation to the rest of the Western Hemisphere.
