Scope and Content Note

This series contains copies of reports that list weekly disciplinary action on incarcerated individuals at Auburn. These reports were signed by the Principal Keeper/Assistant Superintendent and the original copy sent to the Department of Correction each week. For each case of disciplinary action, the reports include: date of offense; person's name and number; officer making the report; punishment (number of days in confinement, days forfeited, and days of compensation forfeited); and description of offense. Attached to these copies of weekly disciplinary reports are several other reports used to compile the weekly report.

For the years 1934 and 1935, the records include prison officer reports of offenses made by incarcerated individuals. These reports include the date of violation, person's name and number, description of violation, number of previous offenses, and name and duty location of the guard.

For the years 1938-1969, the records include a copy of a report of a disciplinary hearing held before the Principal Keeper/Assistant Superintendent to determine the punishment imposed. These reports include: name, number, cell number, and shop location; description of offense; signature of officer reporting the offense; date of hearing; plea by incarcerated individual; discipline imposed; and signature of Principal Keeper/Assistant Superintendent. The original of this disciplinary hearing report was filed in the central case file.

For the years 1938-1952, the records include a daily report listing information on those kept in confinement for discipline reasons. For each person kept in confinement, this "jail report" lists name and number, shop location, date received and discharged, and name of reporting officer.
