Scope and Content Note

The series consists of a one-volume journal that documents receipts and disbursements in Auburn's financial accounts from October 1, 1907 to July 31, 1920. The pages of the journal are paired, with the left page containing receipts entries and the right page containing disbursements entries.

Receipts pages are divided into the following accounts: Maintenance; Ordinary Repairs; State Industries; Women's State Industries; Compensation; Convict Deposits and Miscellaneous Earnings; Women's Prison Maintenance; Women's Prison Special Repairs; Women's Prison Convict Deposits and Miscellaneous Earnings; Special Fund; and Prison Capital Fund.

Disbursements pages are divided into the following accounts: Clerk Maintenance; Storekeeper Maintenance; State Industries; Women's State Industry; Compensation; Convict Deposits and Miscellaneous Earnings; Women's Prison Maintenance; Women's Prison Ordinary Repairs; Women's Prison Convict Deposits and Miscellaneous Earnings; Special Fund; and Prison Capital Fund.

Daily amounts are entered under the various accounts and totals are provided monthly. There is usually a loose slip filed with each month that documents the monthly balances for major prison accounts (Maintenance, State Industries, Compensation, etc.). These are signed by the prison's Assistant Clerk.
