Scope and Content Note

The series is a small assortment of unrelated items of uncertain provenance. Many of the documents date from the years immediately following 1797, when the Office of the Comptroller was established by combining the power to audit with the power to pay the state's accounts. Several of the documents dated ca. 1801 may relate to the comptroller's duties as a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Land Office to sell land for payment of delinquent state taxes.

Included are certificates of payment to the Treasurer's Office; property inventory and other information on tax sales and quit rents; and a note signed by the State treasurer in 1798 certifying that Johannis Bruyn was not paid for his attendance as elector for president and vice president of the U.S. in December 1792.
