Scope and Content Note

This series consists of approximately 30 reel-to-reel (5 inch) audio tapes and accompanying scripts, created and distributed by the Department of Commerce's Bureau of State Information to promote public awareness and tourism by publicizing local historic sites, tourist attractions, museums, cultural events, and recreational facilities. The New York State American Revolution Bicentennial Commission (ARBC) acquired these tapes, which were apparently intended to be aired on radio in the early 1980s as part of the "I Love New York Traveler" advertising campaign. Although the ARBC and the Commerce Department both promoted the state's historical and cultural heritage, the context surrounding production and acquisition of the tapes is unknown.

For most of the tapes and scripts there is both a brief and an extended version. Running time for the brief type is approximately one minute, and for the extended type approximately four and one-half minutes. Scripts for a few tapes are missing. Tapes are numbered; the numbers correspond roughly to the time period the tapes were to be broadcast
