Scope and Content Note

The series consists of 19 panels (20 x 32 inches) on which are mounted ca. 100 black-and-white and color photographs and captions that form a retrospective on the Syracuse Developmental Center (SDC) facilities and programs. The exhibit was constructed as part of the closing ceremonies for the SDC, held on June 17, 1998.

Images are of farm colonies; original buildings and early history; demolition of the Syracuse State School and construction of the "new" school (1972); the "normalization movement" of the 1970s; early vocational programs; home and community services; academic and vocational training; and recognition of students, staff, and advocates.
