Scope and Content Note

This series consists of 35 certificates of purchases of land from the Oneida Indian Reservation in 1840-1841. The sales were apparently never consummated because of nonpayment, and the certificates were returned to the Office of the State Comptroller in 1845. The certificates are signed by the Surveyor General as seller of the land and include receipts (endorsements) for partial payments. Other information includes lot number, number of acres purchased, date of purchase, amount paid, amount due, subsequent payments and transferences of ownership, and date surrendered.
