Scope and Content Note

This series consists primarily of documents obtained by David N. Kelley while serving as the Special Counsel to Governor George Pataki in connection with the governor's investigation of potential ethics violations made by then-New York State Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi. Records were supplied mostly by the New York Office of the State Comptroller in response to subpoenas. Records were also supplied by the General Counsel to the Office of the New York City Comptroller in response to subpoenas, by the New York State Ethics Commission, and by other sources.

Types and subjects of records include copies of subpoenas; financial records documenting expenses associated with the use of state vehicles and employees; employee time sheets and attendance reports; personnel files; employee salary information and payroll records; cell phone information and phone logs; email logs; schedules; spreadsheets and lists of chauffer activities and expenses; employee handbook; comptroller's schedules; correspondence with Attorney General Public Integrity Unit; and Carol Hevesi's medical appointments, insurance records, and calendars.

A significant amount of material related to alleged security threats to the comptroller and his family is also included. This material includes complaints and threatening correspondence; correspondence and emails in response to the comptroller's remarks concerning shooting President George W. Bush (June 2006); and threat assessment by the State Police.
