Scope and Content Note
This series consists of records from the New York State Supreme Court to Nathan D. Wendell, the State Treasurer of New York. Within his duties as the State Treasurer, Wendell was also a member of the Commission of the Land Office.
The records include a copy of a petition and notice from the 5th District of the New York Supreme Court in regards to acquiring the title to certain real estate in the Central New York region. They also contain correspondence that Wendell received from the Special Term of the Supreme Court in Kingston regarding the Merchants Life Insurance Company's appeal to sell securities on deposit with the Insurance Department.
According to the Laws of 1880, the advice and consent of the State Treasurer was required if an insurance company wanted to sell securities on deposit with the State Insurance Department.
Custodial History
This series resulted from a project by Archives staff in 2007 to integrate or accession estrayed or unidentified records.
