Scope and Content Note
This series contains data used to update master overlay quadrangle maps maintained by the former Department of Transportation
Map Information Unit. Contents of the map packets vary. Systematic weeding occurred at the time the quad map packets were
transferred from the Dept. of Transportation (DOT) to the Office of Cyber Security & Critical Infrastructure Coordination
(CSCIC). However, core materials, when present, were kept, as follows: All previous edition compilation manuscripts; and Current
edition reviews of county highways, railroads, city schools, and current edition proof copies to DOT Regions and County Planning
Offices but only if the information was not transferred to the compilation manuscript. These materials are not necessarily
present in every packet. Materials relating to the original editions (ca. 1968-69) are sparse.
The quad map packets occasionally contain master transparencies which are the earliest, sharpest generation of the quadrangle
maps. Data from master overlay maps is now revised and disseminated in digital format (paper quadrangle maps have not been
updated for several years).
Related Material
