This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites of the New York State Department of Health.

B2109-07: This accretion contains a copy of the main Dept. of Health site produced on January 1, 2007, shortly after Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It contains press releases (1995-2006) and leaflets, publications, and other materials concerning birth, death, marriage and divorce records, health insurance programs for low and moderate-income New Yorkers and those with HIV/AIDS or cancer, and other departmental programs and services. Also included are brochures and other materials (some in Spanish) concerning the specific health concerns of infants, children, adolescents, adult men and women, and senior citizens; a wide array of health conditions; home and workplace safety; and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

This copy also contains resources for medical professionals and health care facilities, including protocols for treating specific diseases and conditions; emergency preparedness information; updates (1999-2006) and other information for Medicaid providers; and licensing of nursing home administrators, radiologic technologists, sexual assault forensic examiners, and other health care professionals. Statistical data and reports concerning the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases, asthma, diabetes, heart disease and other health conditions and information concerning grants and other funding opportunities (2006) for researchers are also included.

Researchers should note that, owing to the site's formatting and the limitations of Web archiving technology, the appearance of the archived site differs considerably from that of the live site. Researchers should also note that the top of each page consists of a lengthy series of navigational links and that it is necessary to scroll down to see page-specific content.

This accretion also includes copies of five other websites maintained by the Dept. of Health as of December 2006. Two sites concern long-term care insurance. The Plan Ahead New York site (copied December 22, 2006) contains a glossary of terms, a list of companies selling long-term care policies in New York State, brochures, and other materials. The Partnership for Long-Term Care program site (copied December 22, 2006), contains brochures, forms, participation agreements, information for insurance agents and brokers, and other materials concerning the program, which enables New Yorkers to protect some or all of their assets in the event that their long-term care needs exceed their private insurance benefits. Researchers should note that both archived sites differ in appearance from the live sites, that a lengthy series of navigational links appears at the top of each page, and that it is necessary to scroll down to see page-specific content.

Three sites concern other Department of Health programs and services. The Physician Profile site (copied December 22, 2006) provides access to a database containing information about every physician practicing in New York State; however, owing to the site's structure and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within this site could not be captured successfully. The Smokers' Quitsite (copied December 22, 2006) contains fact sheets (some in Spanish) and other materials relating to smoking cessation methods and programs. Researchers should note that only some of the information contained within this site was captured successfully. The New York State Veterans' Homes site (copied December 22, 2006) contains photographs of and information about services and activities at the Dept. of Health's skilled nursing facilities for veterans in Oxford, St. Albans, Batavia, and Montrose.

Researchers should note that as of December 2006, the Department of Health maintained an HIV Clinical Resource website for health care providers. However, repeated attempts to copy this site were unsuccessful.

B2109-08: This accretion includes a copy of the main Department of Health site produced on April 29, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains press releases (1995-2008) and leaflets, publications, and other materials concerning birth, death, marriage and divorce records, health insurance programs for low and moderate-income New Yorkers and those with HIV/AIDS or cancer, and other departmental programs and services. The Smokers' Quitsite (copied May 28, 2008) contains newsletters (2006-2008), fact sheets (some in Spanish) and other materials about smoking and smoking cessation, information about smoking cessation methods and programs, and information for health care providers. The New York State Veterans' Homes site (copied May 27, 2008) contains photographs of and information about services and activities at the Dept. of Health's skilled nursing facilities for veterans in Oxford, St. Albans, Batavia, and Montrose.

The Physician Profile site (copied May 20, 2008) provides access to a database containing information about every physician practicing in New York State. However, most of the information contained within this site was not captured properly. The Prescription Drug Prices site (copied May 28, 2008), which was created during Governor Spitzer's administration, provides access to a database containing information about prescription drug prices and pharmacies in New York State. Only the home page, search pages, a list of the 150 most commonly prescribed prescription drugs, and a list of links to other websites were captured properly.

The last site, eMedNY (copied May 20, 2008), enables health care providers to access the department's Medicaid program claims processing system. Owing to the site's structure and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within this site was not captured, but this copy does contain information about the system's capabilities and known technical issues, a glossary of terms, and information relating to the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Researchers should note that this site was not captured in 2006.

Researchers should note that as of mid-2008, the Dept. of Health maintained an HIV Clinical Resource website for health care providers. However, repeated attempts to copy this site were unsuccessful.
