Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites of the Office of Cultural Education, which is part of the New York State Education Department. Researchers should note that the office's three largest program areas, the State Archives, the State Library, and the State Museum, maintain their own websites; in addition, the Office of Cultural Education site was not captured in 2014 or 2015.

B2168-07: This accretion contains a copy of the Office of Cultural Education site produced on March 8, 2007, shortly after Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It includes information about the office's four main program areas: the State Archives, the State Library, the State Museum, and the Office for Educational Television and Public Broadcasting. Information about the history, mission, and organizational structure of each department; resources relating to disaster prevention, preparedness, and recovery (2006); and resources for educators are also present.

This accretion also includes a copy of another web resource maintained by the Office of Cultural Education as of March 2007. The New York Knowledge Initiative site (copied March 8, 2007) contains information about an effort to strengthen New York's library information resources, including the proposal submitted to the State Board of Regents and state legislature (2007), and resources for school libraries. Researchers should note that this site was technically part of the main Office of Cultural Education site, but as of March 2007 there were no navigational links connecting the main Office of Cultural Education site to the New York Knowledge Initiative section of the site. As a result, this section of the site was captured separately. Researchers should also note that this resource was later removed from the live web.

B2168-08: This accretion consists of a copy of the Office of Cultural Education website produced on May 9, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). Most of the information it contains is included in the March 8, 2007 copy, but this copy contains updated information about the Office for Educational Television and Public Broadcasting and educational resources.

B2168-11: This accretion consists of a copy of the Office of Cultural Education website produced on January 18, 2011, shortly after Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office. It contains updated information about the Office for Educational Television and Public Broadcasting, as well as educational resources and materials relating to the Cultural Education Trust including its bylaws, meeting minutes (2008), an annual report (2007-2008), and the State Museum exhibition galleries renewal plan (2006-2009).

B2168-20: This accretion consists of a copy of the Office of Cultural Education website produced March 24, 2020, during Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's third term of office (2011-2021). It contains updated information about the New York State Summer School for the Arts (NYSSSA) including opening and performance dates and locations, faculty listings and biographies, and student profiles covering the schools of ballet, choral, dance, media arts, orchestra, theatre, and visual arts.
