Senator Malcolm A. Smith, a Democrat, was first elected to the Senate in a March 2000 special election. He has represented the 10th Senate District (2001-2002) and the 14th Senate District (2003-present). The 14th Senate District consists of the Queens neighborhoods of Hollis, St. Albans, Cambria Heights, Queens Village, Rosedale, and the entirety of the Rockaway Peninsula. He has served as Minority Leader (2007-2008), Majority Leader (2009), and President Pro Tempore (2009-2010).
