Scope and Content Note

This series documents the recovery of the World Trade Center site in the months immediately following the September 11 terrorist attacks. Information includes restricted zones, debris calculations, thermal hot spots, damaged buildings and command posts, and other aerial photographs showing progress over time. Also included are aerial photographs of the Staten Island debris processing site at Fresh Kills. The maps, which assisted federal, state, and local government emergency personnel working at the World Trade Center site, were created by EarthData, a mapping services firm working under contract to the State Office for Technology.
