The videos exist in 1 and 2-inch film reels, and U-Matic, VHS, and Betacam tape formats. Many items cannot be played on current technology available at the State Archives and may need to be sent out to be digitized for access. Scope and Content Note

This series consists of various educational programming videos and associated project documentation created or sponsored by the Office of Educational Television and Public Broadcasting in service of Education Department program initiatives. Key initiatives documented in the series include New York Learns, Vegetable Soup, A Place of Doors, A New Compact for Learning, Keepers of the Western Door, "Focus on Science, Just Think, Energizing Playwrights, Visual Learning, Thinking Curriculum, Breakfast Connections, and AIDS education programming. The videos exist in 1 and 2-inch film reels, and U-Matic, VHS, and Betacam tape formats.

New York Learns was a major vehicle for providing field constituencies and the public with information on program initiatives. The series deals with multiple subjects such as "Online Learning," "A New Compact for Learning," "Next to Teacher, Educational Television is Best," "Those Who Can, Teach," and "Learning by Doing: Lessons from the Field." The date range for this series runs from 1988 to approximately 1997.

A New Compact for Learning was a secondary series found within New York Learns. These videos were part of a large Education Department strategic plan to improve K-12 education by providing students with the necessary skill sets needed to navigate their changing world. It includes several programs and subjects within the overarching goal of improving student skills and educational standards. A New Compact for Learning has a date range of 1992 to 1995.

Keepers of the Western Door appears to provide short subjects on Seneca Indian culture. It dates from approximately 1980.

Vegetable Soup was an educational television series produced in 1977 and 1978 by the State Education Department that emphasized tolerance and diversity. The series notably featured celebrities such as James Earl Jones, Bette Midler, and Daniel Stern. This series is on 39 Umatic tapes that appear to be masters that were discarded by the Broome-Tioga BOCES in 2003.

Focus on Science was a bilingual (English and Spanish language) series created in 1991 aimed at elementary school students and focused on several different scientific subjects such as electricity and biology.

Just Think was a series produced in 1996 with WMHT to promote "Problem Solving Through Inquiry."

ICEIT, created in 1974 and subtitled "A Place of Doors," consists of 7 cassettes that are denoted by "days."

Visual Learning is a series from 1976 which encompasses several episodes dealing with educational television.

AIDS education was a series of programs the Education Department developed in 1989 to educate teachers on how to educate K-12 students on AIDS. This material is arranged by topics and age group.

B2623-19: This accretion contains additional videos related to the series New York Learns, as well as videos from the series Hidden Treasure. Hidden Treasure was a series focused on Vietnamese refugees in the United States.
