Scope and Content Note

These records document the acquisition, accession, loan, conservation, and use of the artwork collection which was assembled under the direction of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller during the construction of the Empire State Plaza. The artwork collection includes paintings, sculptures, and mixed media forms of art.

Specific records in this series include biographical information about contributing artists in the form of newspaper clippings and secondary source information; and conservation information including conservation examination forms, treatment records, treatment reports, crime reports, proposals for treatment, and invoices. Also included are purchase records such as official correspondence, memorandums, and agreements; loan documentation including loan agreements, correspondence, and information on loans to other institutions; and images of the art and artists in various formats including photographs, negatives, and slides.
