Scope and Content Note

This series documents the projects, research topics, and activities of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Bureau of Wildlife's Biometrics Unit. These records consist of a broad range of materials including correspondence, emails, and memorandums; information items such as articles and clippings; drafts of articles to be published in agency publications and reports; data pertaining to waterfowl and bird banding and tracking; and photographs, glass plate negatives, and diskettes.

The bulk of this series consists of waterfowl banding sheets. These sheets record biometric data for waterfowl across New York State. Information collected on these sheets includes date banded, operator, location, wild trapped or hand-reared, band number, age, species, sex, retrap band numbers, and remarks. Other records include survey data from hunters and trappers, wild game harvest records, furbearer harvest reports, sighting reports, population data, and wildlife surveys.
