Administrative History
Eugene J. Leff, Deputy Commissioner for Remediation and Materials Management, was appointed in January 2011. He supervises three divisions: Mineral Resources, Environmental Remediation, and Materials Management. These divisions are responsible for the permitting of gas and oil wells, remediation of hazardous waste sites, permitting of landfills, and several other programs.
James M. Tierney, Assistant Commissioner for Water Resources, was appointed in 2007. His areas of responsibility include: sewage and industrial waster-water treatment plants, programs to address polluted runoff from concentrated animal feeding operations, construction excavations and urbanized areas, water quality standards, water quality assessments and water supply management, flood hazard risk reduction, and coastal hazard and dam safety programs.
