Scope and Content Note

This series consists of subject, correspondence, and administrative records regarding bear population tracking and management in regions of New York State including the Allegany State Park, the Catskill Mountains, the Adirondack Mountains, and Western New York. Topics include bear handling; nuisance and damage reports in New York and other states; non-hunting mortality; body measurement analysis; postmortem examinations; laws and legislative proposals; dens, habitat, and climate analysis; hunting permits and registrations; and bear traps. Records include correspondence, photographs, slides, negatives, VHS tapes, reports, charts, and permits.
