Scope and Content Note

This series consists of transcripts of decrees docketed by the Court of Chancery and its circuits.

Each entry gives the name of the person against whom the decree was rendered, his residence, the amount of debt, damages, costs, or other sums decreed, the date and hour of the docketing decree, the names of the parties to the suit, and the date when the decree was discharged, reversed, or vacated. Each document is signed by the clerk, register, or assistant register from whose docket the entry was copied. On the dorso is the name of the person against whom the decree was rendered and the date and the hour of receipt by the clerk of the Supreme Court. Documents filed with the clerks at Albany, Utica, and Geneva are found in this series. Not all years are present for each office. Winning parties in chancery suits could for a fee have the decree in their favor docketed and a transcript of the docket entry sent to the clerks of the Supreme Court for filing there.
