Administrative History

Many cases were pending when the Court of Chancery ended its existence on July 1, 1847, at which time its equity jurisdiction was vested in the reorganized Supreme Court by the new Constitution adopted in 1846 (Art. 14, sect. 5-6). The newly-established Court of Appeals assumed custody of the records and papers of the former Court of Chancery, including many files relating to cases pending at the time the Court of Chancery was abolished.
