Scope and Content Note

The series consists of internal case reports, memoranda, and a small number of draft opinions, opinions, and dissenting opinions prepared by judges of the Court of Appeals, the state's highest court. The reports give background information on a case; outlines of the issues; points of law; and often a recommendation (e.g., that the judgment be affirmed without opinion; that a motion should be granted).

J2003-92: All of the 653 reports in this accretion were written by the eminent judge Benjamin Cardozo during his tenure on the Court of Appeals. Judge Cardozo later served on the U.S. Supreme Court. These case reports were culled from existing court files and may be incomplete; many reports from the years during which Cardozo was a judge of the Court of Appeals are missing, and it is likely that some of the missing reports are attributable to him.

J2003-93: This accretion consists of case reports prepared by various judges of the Court of Appeals. The reports give background information on cases; outlines of issues; points of law; and recommendations.

J2003-99: This accretion consists of approximately 8,000 internal case reports dated 1928-1939.
