Numerical by group number from 1 to 248 (which refers to either a large folder, a box, or one of two partitions within a box), followed by an alphabetic code from A to H and then from K to L (which identifies a range within the original pigeonhole filing system), and followed again by a number from 1 to 10 (which identifies a pigeonhole within each range), with the resulting code represented in this format: 1/A–1
