Scope and Content Note

These files were compiled by the staff of Assemblyman Maurice D. Hinchey who was first elected to the Assembly in 1974 as a Democrat from the 101st Assembly District (part of Ulster County).

The files deal with various topics of particular concern to Hinchey's constituents in Ulster County such as aid to public education, the Catskill Gateway Project, and the construction of the North-South arterial in Kingston which resulted in blasting followed by insurance claims. The files contain correspondence (incoming and outgoing), rough notes, memorandums, newspaper clippings, published reports, and minutes of meetings.

L0006-02: This accretion consists mostly of documentation on investigations of organized crime'sinvolvement in the waste disposal industry by the Assembly Environmental Committee. Other subjects include trash incineration, medical waste disposal, and hazardous waste disposal. Types of records include newspaper clippings and releases, public and private hearing transcripts, court transcripts, legal material, correspondence with other state agencies dealing with environment and public health.
