Scope and Content Note

The series consists of carbon sets which record activity and roll call votes on legislation reported to various committees of the legislature, along with copies of original bills and computer printouts listing cumulative legislative actions.

Each form provides the following information: year, name of committee, assembly or senate bill number, date reported, and action (list of 13). Members of each committee are listed with the "A" (aye) and "N" (no") column checked when appropriate, and results totaled. Actions listed include: favorable; favorable with amendment; referred to committee; amended (date); substitution; motion to discharge lost; defeated; enacting clause stricken; executive session; died in committee; and held for consideration. Each complete carbon set includes five copies colored for Clerk, Public Information, House Operations, Minority, and Committee Clerk respectively. Many sets are incomplete with solely the committee clerk (gold) copy.

Along with the forms, but filed separately, are original bills stamped "to be returned with report," sometimes with notices or receipts attached by the committee clerk informing on actions (e.g., other requirements, delivery to another place). For several committees there are computer printouts, published by the Legislative Bill Drafting Commission, reporting cumulative action on bills. The printouts show bill number, sponsor, section of state law affected, title, and dates of referral, enactment, or other action.

The following committees are represented in the series: Aging; Banks; Cities; Commerce, Industry, and Economic Development; Consumer Affairs and Protection; Governmental Employees; Governmental Operations; Health; Housing; Insurance; Judiciary; Labor; Local Governments; Social Services; Real Property Taxation; Small Business; Tourism, Arts, and Sports Development; Transportation; Veterans Affairs; and Ways and Means.
