Administrative History

The Sub-committee on Indian Affairs was created in 1970 to recommend revisions to the Indian law in New York State which had not been updated since 1909. The sub-committee met with the following Native American nations at reservations throughout New York State to discuss the needs of the people: Onondagas, Oneidas, Mohawks, St. Regis, Poospatuck, Shinnecock, Matinecock, Salamanca, Tuscarora, and Tonawanda.
