Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the official, publicly accessible main website of New York State as it existed at the end of the administration of Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006). At the time these copies were produced, this website actually consisted of two seamlessly integrated sites. One contained information created largely by the Office of the Governor, and the other consisted of a New York State Citizen Guide that enabled users to locate state agency websites and contact information, contracting information, lobbying, grant programs, and other topics of broad interest to citizens and businesses. Owing to the limitations of Web archiving technology, the two sites were captured separately.

The main site was copied on December 23, 2006, several days before Governor Pataki left office. It contains the texts of the Governor's State of the State addresses, Budget Messages, and other significant speeches (1995-2006) and copies of executive orders issued in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. It also features photographs of Governor Pataki, some of which were taken at the World Trade Center site shortly after September 11, 2001, and information about the First Family, the activities of the First Lady, the work of Lieutenant Governor Mary O. Donohue, the Executive Mansion, and past governors of New York State.

The New York State Citizen Guide site (copied December 24, 2006) consists largely of links to other New York State government websites. Researchers should note that, owing to the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained in this site could not be captured properly.
