Administrative History
Issuance of stock for canal loans was authorized by Laws of 1817, Chapter 262. Laws of 1818, Chapter 282, section 12 required the State Comptroller to record transfers of canal stock.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of Book 'C' of receipts for transfers of New York State six percent canal stock through the Transfer Office in New York City. Entries provide the transfer number, date, parties to conveyance and residences, amount, and signatures of the conveyor and a witness. This book is presumably in the records of the Comptroller because he was one of the Commissioners of the Canal Fund, for which state stock was issued.
