Scope and Content Note

Vouchers document expenses incurred during surveys of proposed branch canals, some of which were never built.

There are also abstracts of vouchers, listing them by date, name of payee, and amount, and related correspondence. The abstracts and vouchers are labelled with the name of the engineer, location of route surveyed, and total amount of vouchers. The branch canal surveys were authorized by a law of 1825, and by several joint resolutions passed by the Legislature in 1829.
