Scope and Content Note
This series consists of an apparently uncompleted and unpublished draft of a revision of the Code of Public Instruction. It contains the text of the "Consolidated School Law" of 1894 (Chapter 556), as amended, and of other general statutes relating to education, in force on August 1, 1897; followed by several chapters which explain and interpret specific aspects of the laws. The titles of these chapters include: Appeals; Arbor Day; Blind; Clerk of District; Collector; Compulsory Education; Deaf and Dumb; Fines and Penalties; Meetings; Reports; School Commissioners and Commissioner Districts; School Districts; School-Houses and Appendages; School District Libraries and Librarians; State Teachers' Library; State School Moneys; and State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Chapters I-IX are numbered and paginated. Beginning with Chapter X, pagination ceases and the pages are arranged in reverse order. The preparation and publication of the Code were authorized in 1895, and this draft follows the format of a previous Code of Public Instruction published in 1887.
