Scope and Content Note
The series consists of an original certificate dated September 2, 1914, appointing James A. Parsons as attorney general of the State of New York. The certificate was kept within the records of the Department of Law, of which the attorney general is the administrative head as chief legal officer for the state.
The office of attorney general is an elected position. The certificate credits an appointment which was apparently the result of the legislative authorization process to fill a vacancy prior to the next general election.
The mounted and framed certificate is signed by Governor Martin Glynn and attested to by the Deputy Secretary of State. It shows the seal of the State of New York and carries a decorative red seal near the attestation.
