Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites of the Department of Agriculture and Markets.

B2047-07: This accretion consists of copies of Department of Agriculture and Markets websites that were produced shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. The main Department of Agriculture and Markets site (copied December 20, 2006) provides information about the organizational structure of the department and departmental programs and services relating to plant crops, livestock, agricultural fairs, food safety, enforcement of the state's kosher food law, soil and water conservation, and regulation and testing of commercial scales and other measuring devices. It also includes annual reports (1998-2003) and press releases (1999-2006).

This accretion also includes copies of two other sites that the Department of Agriculture and Markets maintained as of late 2006. The department's Licensing site (copied December 20, 2006) details how to obtain or renew licenses for various food processing activities. Owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the links in this copy do not work properly. The Pride of New York site (produced December 20, 2006) provides summary information about the Pride of New York program, which promotes the sale of New York State agricultural products. Only the home page of this site was captured successfully in 2006.

B2047-08: This accretion contains a copy of the main Department of Agriculture and Markets site that was produced on April 22, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains information about the department and its programs, additional press releases (2004-2008), and updated licensing information.

This accretion also includes copies of three other sites that the Department of Agriculture and Markets maintained as of mid-2008. Only part of the department's Licensing site (copied April 22, 2008) and the home page of the Pride of New York site (copied April 22, 2008) could be captured properly in 2008. The Empire Expo Center and New York State Fair site (copied April 22, 2008) provides information about the center, which is located in Syracuse and hosts a variety of events throughout the year. It also contains hotel, parking, admission, entertainment schedule, and other information of interest to visitors to the 2008 New York State Fair. Also included are meeting minutes (2007), an annual budget report (2008-09), bylaws, and other materials concerning the Industrial Exhibit Authority, which owned five State Fair buildings and employed most New York State Fair employees; the authority was dissolved in October 2009, and all of its functions and duties were transferred to the Department of Agriculture and Markets.

B2047-11: This accretion contains a copy of the main Department of Agriculture and Markets site produced on December 20, 2010, shortly before Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office. It contains background information about the department and its programs and additional annual reports (1998-2007), press releases (2004-2010), and food safety alerts (2005-2010). A milk hauling study (2008), a coloring book for children, and updated licensing information is also present.

This accretion also includes copies of three other sites that the Department of Agriculture and Markets maintained as of late 2010. Only the home page of the Pride of New York site (copied December 20, 2010) could be captured properly in late 2010. The New York State Fair site (copied December 20, 2010) contains press releases (2009-2010), uncaptioned photographs of past State Fairs (2006-2010), results of competitions held at the 2010 State Fair, summary information about prevailing wage rates and other employment conditions relevant to State Fair contractors, a printable map of the State Fairgrounds, and hotel, parking, and other information of interest to people visiting the 2010 State Fair. Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, some of the information contained within this site could not be captured properly. The New York State Fair Twitter feed (copied March 31, 2011) contains summary information about news and events relating to the fair. Researchers should note that, owing to the limitations of web archiving technology and the structure of the live page, most of the content on this page could not be captured properly.

B2047-15: This accretion contains a copy of the main Department of Agriculture and Markets site produced on January 9, 2015, shortly after Governor Andrew Cuomo (2011- ) completed his first term of office. It includes information about the department and its programs and additional annual reports (1998-2007, 2013), press releases (2007-2015), and food safety alerts (2005-2014). Also present are a listing of farmers markets and events throughout the state by county (2014), information about grants and other funding opportunities (2014), audio recordings (2007-2014) of numerous council, committee, and board meetings convened by the department, and updated licensing information.

This accretion also includes copies of four other sites that the Department of Agriculture and Markets maintained as of early 2015. The Pride of New York site (copied January 08, 2015) provides summary information about the Pride of New York program, which promotes the sale of New York State agricultural products. The site contains a listing of upcoming events (2015), and a harvest calendar. Owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the content on this page could not be captured properly. However, researchers should note that the text can be viewed if highlighted. The Taste of New York site (copied January 08, 2015) provides information about various New York State products, including beer, cider, dairy, fruits and vegetables, maple syrup, spirits, wine, and other specialty products. Also included on this site is food related news from around the state (2013-2014). Owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of web archiving technology, most of the content on this page could not be captured properly.

The New York State Fair site (copied January 29, 2015) contains additional press releases (2014-2015), uncaptioned photographs of past State Fairs (2006-2014), State Fair daily attendance statistics (1972-2014), a year-round events calendar (2015), a listing of past advisory board meetings with agendas (2011-2014), logos (2014), a state fair fact sheet (2014), information about the history of the state fair, and information and forms for state fair exhibitors, concessions, musical entertainers, and sponsors. A printable map of the State Fairgrounds, and information about parking, area hotels, and other facilities of interest to attendees are also included. Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live pages and the limitations of Web archiving technology, photographs in the photo gallery from 2006-2011 can only be viewed as thumbnails and press releases issued prior to August 2014 were not captured.

The Department of Agriculture and Markets Twitter feed (copied January 12, 2015) contains summary information about news and events relating to the department. Researchers should note that, owing to the limitations of web archiving technology and the structure of the live site, most of the information in this feed could not be captured properly. Researchers should also note that repeated attempts to capture the department's Facebook and Flickr pages in 2015 were unsuccessful.

B2047-20: This accretion contains a copy of the main Department of Agriculture and Markets site that was produced on January 13, 2020, during the third term of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. It contains information about the department and its programs and newer press releases (2014-2019), food safety alerts (2014-2019), and funding opportunities (2019-2020). It also contains information about departmental initiatives, among them support for new and beginning farmers, honeybee health, a forestry and wood products summit, and the New York State Grown and Certified program. Information relating to Taste of New York, which was formerly maintained on a separate site, is also included.

Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of web archiving technology, only some of the press releases, food safety alerts, and funding opportunities could be captured and that none of the reports were captured in early 2020.

This accretion also includes copies of two other sites that the Department of Agriculture and Markets maintained in early 2020. The New York State Fairgrounds site (copied March 7, 2020) contains information about buildings and event venues at the fairgrounds, event planning and facility rental, and services and amenities for visitors. Owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of web archiving technology, only the home page of the New York State Fair site (copied March 8, 2020) could be captured properly in early 2020.
