Scope and Content Note

This series contains a brief daily record of actions taken in cases heard by the Vice Chancellors of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th Circuits.

The date of the hearing, the names of the parties and often their solicitors, and a statement of actions taken are recorded for each case. The statement of actions taken varies in content and detail depending on the stage the case is in and its subject. Sometimes only the actions of the Court (e.g., "divorce granted," "decree to sell") are recorded. For other cases a detailed list of papers filed, actions taken by the solicitors and the Court, evidence submitted, and testimony taken are recorded. One of the volumes for the 7th Circuit, however, included only rough minutes taken at special terms of the court held in Geneva.
