Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites maintained by the Office of the Governor during the administration of Andrew M. Cuomo (2011-2021). Researchers should note that the Archives did not capture these sites in 2015-2019; researchers seeking copies of the site as it existed during these years should consult the captures performed by the Internet Archive (https://web.archive.org/web/*/governor.ny.gov).

W0113-12: This accretion contains a copy of the official website of the Office of the Governor produced on February 28, 2012, approximately one year after Governor Andrew A. Cuomo took office. It contains a State of the State speech (2011-2012), an Executive Budget (2011-2012), press releases (2011-2012), legislative bills and memorandums (2011-2012), executive orders (2011-2012), capsule biographies of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, and information about the history of the Executive Mansion. The Governor's public calendar (2011-2012) is contained within the site's "Citizen Connects" section. The "Initiatives" section contains reports and other materials documenting the work of the Mandate Relief Council, the Medicaid Redesign Team, the Spending and Government Efficiency (SAGE) Commission, and other bodies that Governor Cuomo established.

This accretion also includes a February 22, 2012 copy of the Office of the Governor's Hall of Governors site, which contains information about the state's governors and images of artwork on display in the State Capitol's newly renovated Hall of Governors. Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within this site could not be captured properly.

W0113-13: This accretion contains a copy of the official website of the Office of the Governor produced on December 28, 2012, approximately two years after Governor Andrew A. Cuomo took office. It contains additional State of the State speeches (2011-2012), Executive Budgets (2011-2013), press releases (2011-2012), legislative bills and memorandums (2011-2012), executive orders (2011-2012), capsule biographies of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, and information about the history of the Executive Mansion. The Governor's public calendar (2011-2012) is contained within the site's "Citizen Connects" section. The "Initiatives" section contains reports and other materials documenting the work of the State Education Reform Commission, three emergency preparedness commissions, the Justice Center for Protection of People with Special Needs, and other commissions that Governor Cuomo established. Of note is information about the State's response to Hurricane Sandy (October 2012) and efforts to reduce the impact of future storms, including press releases, an overview of the emergency preparedness commissions established in the wake of Sandy and Hurricanes Irene and Lee (2011), and a page outlining "Hurricane Sandy" resources.

Researchers should note that pop-up windows encouraging them to sign up for e-mail updates from the Office of the Governor may open occasionally. A single mouse click on any portion of the screen not occupied by this window will automatically close it. Researchers should also note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, some of the information contained within this site could not be captured properly.

This accretion also includes copies of four other sites created by the Office of the Governor. The New New York site (copied January 28, 2013) contains links to information of interest to current and prospective business owners. The Regional Economic Development Councils site (copied February 11, 2013) contains information about the ten regional councils that Governor Cuomo established and summary information about the projects funded by each council. The FreshConnect site (copied January 28, 2013) contains information about the state's support for farmers' markets and other initiatives designed to increase access to fresh, locally produced food in low-income or otherwise underserved communities. The Hall of New York site (copied January 28, 2013) contains images of the artwork on display in the New York State Capitol's recently renovated Hall of New York.

Researchers should note that owing to the structure of the live sites and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within The New New York, Regional Economic Development Councils, FreshConnect, and Hall of New York sites could not be captured properly. In addition, the appearance of these copies differs dramatically from those of the live sites.

This accretion also contains a January 4, 2013 copy of the Office of the Governor's Twitter feed and a January 4, 2013 copy of the Office of the Governor's YouTube channel, both of which contain information about post-Sandy recovery efforts. Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of these sites and the limitations of Web archiving technology, only a fraction of the information contained within these resources could be captured. Researchers should also note that repeated efforts to capture the Office of the Governor's Facebook, Flickr, and Instagram pages in early 2013 were unsuccessful.

W0113-14: This accretion contains a copy of the main Office of the Governor site produced on March 10, 2014, during Governor Cuomo's third year in office. It contains additional State of the State speeches (2011-2014), Executive Budgets (2011-2014), press releases (2011-2014), legislative bills and memorandums (2011-2014), and executive orders (2011-2014), It also contains updated information about the Governor's policy initiatives and priorities.

This accretion also includes a March 10, 2014 copy of the Get Involved site, which contains summary information about the proposals outlined in the Governor's 2014 State of the State speech. Owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information in this site does not display properly; the August 19, 2021 copy of this site should be consulted.

W0113-20: This accretion consists of a copy of the main Office of the Governor site produced on December 20, 2020, during Governor Cuomo's third term of office. It contains capsule biographies of Governor Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor Kathleen C. Hochul, information about the Governor's Mansion, and information about the Governor's programs and priorities, including the COVID-19 pandemic. It also includes copies of the Governor's public schedule (2011-2021); to access them, click on the "Governor Cuomo's Past Schedule" link on the "Schedule" page.

Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, none of the the Governor's executive orders, bills, and legislative memorandums could be captured properly and only a handful of the most recent press releases (2020) could be copied.

W0113-21: This accretion includes a copy of the main Office of the Governor site produced on August 19, 2021, several days before Governor Cuomo's resignation took effect. Most of the accessible information it contains is also present in the December 22, 2020 copy, but this copy contains updated information about the Governor's programs and priorities and additional schedules (2011-2021); to access the schedules, click the "Governor Cuomo's Past Schedule" link on the "Schedule" page.

Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limits of Web archiving technology, most of the press releases, executive orders, and other materials housed in databases connected to this site could not be captured successfully. In addition, a "You are now leaving the official State of New York website" dialog box may appear as one navigates through the site. This dialog box should be disregarded; simply click the "visit site" button to proceed to the next page.

This accretion also includes copies of nine other sites maintained by the Office of the Governor, several of which were created during the Governor's first term of office. The main New York State website (copied August 18, 2021) contains links to the websites of the Governor, State Comptroller, Attorney General, the Legislature, the Unified Court System, and a host of state government agencies, offices, commissions, and other bodies. It also contains summary information about state government services for residents and visitors and programs of the Office of the Governor. Owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, only a fraction of the information contained within this site could be captured properly.

Six sites concern the Governor's priorities during his first term of office. The People First site (copied August 24, 2021) concerns his first year in office, and the Reforming Government (captured August 24, 2021), focuses on the 2011 property tax cap and local government consolidation. The SAFE Act site (captured August 24, 2019) contains information about gun regulation legislation enacted in January 2013, including information of interest to gun owners, hunters, and gun dealers and gun safety resources and programs. Two websites concern the Governor's priorities during his third term of office. The Cut Property Taxes site (captured August 18, 2021) contains information about the impact of the 2019 legislation that made permanent the 2011 property tax cap. The New York Forward site (captured August 18, 2021) contains information about the state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including current and past industry guidelines; recommendations regarding implementation of federal Centers for Disease Control guidance; information about the responsibilities and membership of seven advisory councils established to guide various facets of the state's response; and information about testing, vaccines, and protecting oneself and one's family. Owing to the structure of of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, the statistical data and some of the other content present in this site could not be captured properly.
