Scope and Content Note
This series consists of a variety of documents compiled by the New York State Senate during the Revolutionary War era. Correspondence addresses such issues as progress of the war, military maneuvers, recruitment of troops, procurement of supplies, exchange of prisoners, land bounties, prosecution of suspected Loyalists, forfeited estates, and the New York-Vermont boundary dispute. Petitions and claims include pleas from Quakers for release from military service, requests for cancellation of interest due on personal debts, requests for compensation for losses sustained or services performed during the war, and pleas for protection from suits for debts owed to Loyalists.
Other records include resolutions received from the United States Congress regarding aid to other states, Senate roll calls, certifications of service or injuries received by particular soldiers, unit muster rolls, unit payrolls, accounts with the state, and abstracts of regimental mileage and billeting rolls.
