Scope and Content Note

Volumes labeled 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D', and 'M' and two volumes of field notes document surveys of a proposed route for a state road between Lake Erie and the Hudson River.

The maps show sections of the route between various towns and villages and provide: names of towns; waterways; roads; lot numbers; boundaries of estates and names of estate owners; and location of inns and taverns and names of their owners. Profiles are located at the top of most map pages. These are horizontal lines showing: inclines and declines of the land mapped on each page; angle of the slope; and height of the land above water level.

Volumes of field notes accompanying map volumes 'A' and 'M' document surveys of sections of the routes mapped out in the volumes. The field notes include brief descriptions of the land at each survey point along the route.
