Scope and Content Note

These proceedings record the Military Board's decisions to authorize the payment of claims to individuals who incurred expenses while raising troops for service during the Civil War. According to the provisions of Chapter 397 of the Laws of 1862, the board was empowered to authorize these payments only after they had been examined by the Auditing Board. The proceedings usually provide the date and place of meeting, name of claimant, claim number, and amount authorized to be paid. In addition to the claims, the proceedings also contain information regarding the purchase of arms by the state.
