This series consists of commissions for notaries public appointed by the governor during legislative recesses. Information includes appointee name, residence by town, commission date, expiration date of term in office, county of appointment, and the names of the acting governor, deputy secretary of state and governor's secretary. Some volumes contain copies of the commissions with typed lists of all the appointments made on any particular day, arranged in alphabetical order by county.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of twenty bound volumes of copies of commissions for notaries public appointed by the governor during legislative recesses. The commissions provide the name(s) of the appointee(s), residence by town, date of commission, expiration date of term in office, for what county the notary public was appointed, and the names of the acting governor, deputy secretary of state and governor's secretary. Some of the later volumes in the series contain copies of the commissions with typed lists of all the appointments made on any particular day, arranged in alphabetical order by county.
