Scope and Content Note

This series documents the articles and quantity of items shipped using the Auburn and Syracuse Railroad Company. The bills in this series are "a just and true account of all articles conveyed by a train of cars on the Auburn and Syracuse Railroad." Each bill is signed by the superintendent of the railroad company and includes the toll that was charged for shipment. Also noted is where the items were picked up, where they were to be collected, and in some cases to whom they belonged. The names of the superintendents included in these documents are: Samuel Wildrick, George Williamson, Julius H. Clarke, and Nathaniel Williams. Most of the items that were shipped using this railroad are listed as "Box Goods," but other items listed are furniture, carriages, machinery, mahogany, and a stove among many others. The series also includes abstracts of freight carried both eastward and westward.
