Summary:
The series consists primarily of State Education Department handbooks containing lists of component institutions and organizations,
namely public and private educational institutions with approved courses of study, or programs that have been incorporated
or chartered by the department. Such institutions include colleges and universities; normal schools, (teacher) training schools
and classes; academies; business schools; nursing schools; libraries; and historical societies. In addition, the series contains
annual handbooks specifying the regulations relating to the certification of schoolteachers.
