This series consists of assorted material created by film distributors or studio publicists for the purpose of publicizing motion pictures. Most films represented portray sensitive subject matter, such as burlesque, sex, crime, narcotics, or prostitution. Material includes black and white photographs; posters; descriptions of films; clip art; descriptions of marketing material available for purchase; and suggestions for promotional schemes and/or publicity events associated with the theatrical run of a particular film.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of assorted material created by film distributors or studio publicists for the purpose of publicizing motion pictures. The materials may have been collected separately for examination for offensive content. There are penciled numbers included on some material, which may be for record keeping associated with film licensing or censorship review. The majority of films represented by this material portray sensitive subject matter, such as burlesque, sex, crime, narcotics, or prostitution.

Types of material include black and white still photographs used for lobby display or publication, posters of various sizes, and other publicity material. Publicity material or packets contain descriptions of films, clip art that could be used for newspaper publication, descriptions of marketing material available for purchase, and suggestions for promotional schemes and/or publicity events associated with the run of a particular movie in film theatres.
