Administrative History

The Nassau Health Care Corporation is a public benefit corporation established on Feb. 6, 1997 (L. 1997, Ch. 9) to develop and manage a health care system for the benefit of the residents of New York State and Nassau County, including persons in need of health care services who lack the ability to pay. The corporation, which is headed by a fifteen-member board of directors, is legally empowered to acquire, operate and manage health care facilities and to issue bonds and notes to finance the costs of providing such facilities. It operates Nassau University Medical Center, a public teaching hospital affiliated with the Health Sciences Center of the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Northwell Health.
