This series documents awards and honors given to Regent Julia Johnson acknowledging her service during her long tenure as superintendent of schools and University of the State of New York Regent.
Sponsors of the many honors and awards include Mount Vernon School District; New York State Council of School Superintendents; New York State Assembly; Westchester NAACP; National Black Alliance of Black School Educators; and the Westchester County Board of Legislation.
A few of the many honors documented in the series include Superintendent of the Year, 2002; Drum Major for Justice Award, 2014; Judith Johnson Day, 2008; Judith Johnson Month, 2008; Effie Jones Humanitarian Award, 2010; Excellence in Education, 2004; Maxine Giacobbe Award, 2005; and Lighting the Way Visionary Award, 2019.
